"The Pride Augmented Reality Project" was an immersive, celebratory digital activation launched for Pride Month in mid-2021 by Yahoo RYOT Lab and Verizon Media to honor and elevate LGBTQ+ creative expression. Built on the Verizon Media Immersive platform, the tech-forward campaign brought a festive virtual drag show directly to global audiences at a time when physical nightlife venues faced widespread pandemic restrictions. By utilizing custom web-based augmented reality extensions, the activation allowed users to scan a QR code on a desktop or mobile browser to project realistic, high-fidelity 3D avatars of prominent drag queens into their immediate living spaces without requiring a standalone app download. The virtual performances featured performers specifically chosen to represent and celebrate the Transgender, Pansexual, and Non-Binary communities. Integrated with spatial audio controls and vibrant custom soundscapes, the multimedia campaign pioneered a frictionless format for remote community connection, leveraging consumer-facing webAR to turn private spaces into open-air stages for identity and social celebration.
