I’m Matt Valerio, a multidisciplinary artist, musician, writer, and creative tinkerer with a long history in experimental music and visual art. I’m a former member of the music groups Restiform Bodies and Bat Rays, as well as an on-again, off-again solo artist. I’ve toured the US and Europe, remixed artists like Grizzly Bear and Of Montreal, and played shows with Arcade Fire and Animal Collective. My visual work, ranging from video collage and zines to music videos and $5 portraits, has been shown at SXSW, in Berlin, and around the country.

I run The Bomarr Blog, home to the long-running Background Noise interview series, where visual artists share the music they listen to while working. I’ve also contributed to WFMU’s 365 Days Project, written for friends’ zines, profiled artists for a local neighborhood print newsletter, and produced music- and art-focused web series.

My work has also crossed into film and immersive media. I’ve music supervised short and feature-length films that have premiered at Sundance and TriBeCa, and I’ve project managed a wide range of augmented reality and virtual reality projects for Yahoo RYOT Studios.

By day, I work in Los Angeles as a Senior Project Manager at Omnicom Production, leading creative advertising campaigns for major brands. On the side, I work at the beloved Long Beach record store Fingerprints.

I also run Art Openings LA, a highly curated Instagram account posting the best weekly art openings in the greater Los Angeles area, and Business Puns, a feed dedicated to the best pun-based business names out there, a nod to my love of dad jokes.

In my spare time, I design and produce limited-run T-shirts, stickers, pins, and coffee table books.
