What Kept Grandpa Up?

"What Kept Grandpa Up" is a surreal, subversive music video that transforms a forgotten thrift store find into a captivating visual companion for my original song. The project began when I discovered a mysteriously labeled VHS tape for a dollar at an Oakland thrift store, which turned out to contain vintage, discolored adult films. Finding creative inspiration in the unexpected material, I extracted and manipulated only the non-explicit, incidental footage from the tape to isolate the strange background narratives and domestic oddities of the films. By looping, layering, and synchronizing these heavily discolored analog textures to the rhythm of the track, the final video creates an uncanny, dreamlike atmosphere that recontextualizes the original media entirely. This multimedia piece made its public debut in San Francisco at the 2006 "Florida is a Death Metal Town" art show, serving as a compelling exploration of found-footage art.
