"Keep This Space Safe" was a utilitarian, public health-focused augmented reality integration launched in early 2020 by Yahoo News, Verizon Media, and RYOT Lab to educate audiences on COVID-19 safety guidelines. Deployed globally as one of the inaugural showcases for the Verizon Media Immersive platform, the mobile web experience helped users visualize recommended spatial dynamics within their immediate physical environments. By leveraging browser-based AR extensions, the integration overlaid precise, interactive digital markers and 3D boundary visualizations to illustrate exactly what a safe six-foot distance looked like in real time. The tech-forward campaign seamlessly merged journalism with spatial computing, providing millions of mobile readers with a highly scalable, app-free visualization tool that effectively contextualized complex safety protocols during a critical public health crisis.
